Most overseas qualified physiotherapists need to have their qualifications assessed by the  AUSTRALIAN PHYSIOTHERAPY COUNCIL  to meet one of the eligibility requirements for General Registration. There are two assessment pathways for the purpose of General Registration available to overseas qualified physiotherapists: The Standard Assessment Pathway comprising of an Eligibility Assessment, a Written Assessment, and a Clinical Assessment. The Equivalence of Qualification Pa

Effect of Childbirth on the Pelvic Floor And Physical Therapy

Treatment of pelvic floor impairment has become more visible and accepted in the physical therapy community over the past 10 to 15 years. In 2010, the specialty area of Women’s Health was recognized on a national level at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), at which 60 newly certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialists (WCS) were acknowledged for their achievements.  Advanced and in-depth study of anatomy, including internal muscle assessment, physiology, evaluation, and treatment, is highly recommended for therapists who specialize in this area.

How To Gain Muscle Without Using Any Equipment At Home

You don't need any special equipment to gain muscle at home. Training at home has never been more appealing in today's world. Many people have turned to home workouts as a result of a deadly virus and the inability to afford a gym membership. Most of us don't have much in the way of equipment, and ordering online is prohibitively expensive. It may sound depressing and hopeless, but you don't need fancy equipment to gain muscle.

Classification of Ankle Sprains And Healing Process

An ankle Sprain is the commonest injury in the leg we have, Regardless of whether the lateral or medial ligaments are injured, the severity of an ankle sprain is typically placed into one of three grades based on the amount of ligamentous damaged or bruised. The degree of tissue damage, the amount of joint laxity, and the extent of dysfunction increase with each increase in grade. we can classify the ankle sprain into three grades : Grade I ankle sprains result in a stretching of the ligamentous fibers and are considered minor sprains. there is Stretching of ligaments, anterior talofibular ligament usually the one who gets stretched in an ankle sprain. there will be Point tenderness and Limited dysfunction. No laxity will be present at the joint. the patient will be able to bear full weight and Little to no edema will be there. Grade II ankle sprains result in partial tearing of the ligamentous fibers and are considered to be moderate sprains. there will be Part

What is Postural Drainage in Chest Physiotherapy

Postural drainage (bronchial drainage) in Chest Physiotherapy , the technique used for airway clearance , is a means of mobilizing secretions in one or more lung segments to the central airways by placing the patient in various positions. gravity effect on various positions taken by the patient.  When secretions are moved from the smaller to the larger airways, they are then cleared by coughing or endotracheal suctioning. Postural drainage therapy also includes the use of manual techniques, such as percussion, shaking, and vibration , coupled with voluntary coughing. after recovery some patients found lung function decreased in COVID-19 as known as coronavirus infection. post-treatment lung physiotherapy and chest physiotherapy can improve lung function. Goals and Indications for Postural Drainage Prevent Accumulation of Secretions in Patients at Risk for Pulmonary Complications  Patients with pulmonary diseases that are associated with increased production or viscosity

Can Physiotherapy help in COVID-19?

Physiotherapists (Physical Therapists) and other clinicians often have direct contact with patients, which makes them susceptible to the transmission of infectious diseases. Physiotherapists are also often first contact practitioners, which means that they are in a position to take responsibility for the early identification of infectious disease and/or managing workload in primary care settings. Key considerations: Stay current - Ensure that you are well-read on current COVID-19 guidance. The WHO and the CDC have good evolving resources, also check with your local authority. Stay calm - Have an objective view of the crisis we are facing. People, for example, staff and patients, may look to you as a leader to provide information to help them make decisions and also provide reassurance that we can take care of them at this time of need. Minimize exposure in your setting - review infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines, practice social distancing, implement tria

Can a person with Sprengel shoulders build muscles of Back and arm?

Sprengel deformity is a congenital condition that is characterized by abnormal shoulder blade development and elevation (scapula). Can a person with Sprengel's shoulders build muscles? The answer to this question is quite complicated, before that let's overcome what is  Sprengel's deformity?  It is a rare congenital skeletal abnormality (also known as high scapula or congenital high scapula) where a person has one shoulder blade that sits higher on the back than the other. When covered with clothes, severity can range considerably from being almost invisible to the shoulder being raised over 5 centimeters, with neck webbing. Treatment includes early childhood operations and physical therapy.  The risk of nerve damage when removing the omovertebral bone and when stretching the muscle tissue during shoulder relocation complicates surgical treatment in adulthood. Diagnosis is clinical, and instrumental diagnostics such as conventional radiography and CT scan can confirm it.

Quadriceps group of muscles in human body

the quadriceps muscle is consist of four muscle 1.    -rectus femoris -vastus intermedius -vastus medialis -vastus lateralis  These four large anterior thigh muscles insert below the knee and act to extend the knee joint. the three vast lie deep to the rectus femoris and two have their origins on the posterior femur. the rectus femoris originates on the pelvis and thereby can act to flex the hip. 1.rectus femoris Origin -long head: anterior inferior iliac spine                short head: upper margin of the acetabulum Insertion -patella and via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity Nerve supply -femoral nerve (l2,3,4) Blood supply -lateral femoral circumflex artery Action -Extention of knee                assist flexion of femur at hip The palpation-anterior surface of the thigh during active knee extension The Rectus femoris is the only muscle in the quadriceps group that crosses both the hip and knee joints. its combined action is seen as the leg is brought

What is Compartment Syndrome?

Compartment syndrome happens when excessive pressure builds up inside the body's enclosed muscle space. Compartment syndrome is usually the result of bleeding or swelling following an injury. What is Compartment Syndrome? The hazardously high compartment syndrome pressure impedes blood flow to and from the tissues affected. It can be an emergency that requires surgery to avoid permanent injury. Behind the Muscle in Compartment Syndrome? Organ or muscle groups are organized into areas which are called compartments. The walls of these compartments are formed by strong connective tissue webs, called fascia. Blood or edema (fluid resulting from inflammation or injury) may build up in the compartment following an injury.  Fascia's tough walls can't easily expand, and compartment pressure increases, preventing adequate blood flow to tissue inside the compartment. Severe damage to tissue may result, with loss of body function or even death. The legs, arms, and abdomen are more lik

Does Physiotherapy weaken muscles over time?

No , The thing is that  Physiotherapy doesn't weaken your muscle over time. Muscle disease includes a number of rare conditions, which in most cases tend to present at around the same age, and due to their progressive character, they can lead to physical limitations and reduced life expectancy. So Clear answer is Physiotherapy Never Weakens Muscle. but if you are taking Physiotherapic Treatment for a longer time you may feel that your muscles are stronger and with the blank gap in between treatment may lead to feeling of weakness.

What is Active insufficiency in Physiotherapy ?

Active insufficiency, muscles can't go for further shortening while doing the activity on the nearest joint, which the muscle crosses. agonist muscles are mostly showing this phenomenon. let's take the example of flexor compartment muscles of the forearm . flexor compartment muscles of the forearm are responsible for elbow flexion, metacarpal flexion proximal interphalangeous flexion, and distal interphalangeous flexion.  if the movement is done as said in the same sequence, the person will feel difficult to flex MCP and fingers after flexing the elbow and wrist, because muscles are already shortened by the elbow and wrist flexion. so further movement is difficult as it is restricted. this is called Active insufficiency

Endfeel and It's type. How to assess Endfeel?

When assessing passive movement, the examiner should apply overpressure at the end of the Range of motion to determine the quality of end feel. it is known as endfeel. or you can simply say that it is sensation the examiner “feels” in the joint as it reaches the end of the Range of Motion. A proper evaluation of end feel can help the examiner to assess the type of pathology present, indirectly it is a lot helpful. endfeel classify into two: 1) Normal Endfeel 2) Abnormal Endfeel It can be helpful to determine a prognosis severity or stage of the problem Normal endfeel is classified into three types. 1) Bone-to-Bone 2) Soft-Tissue Approximation 3) Tissue Stretch Tissue stretch is the most common type of normal end feel. it is found when the capsule and ligaments are the primary restraints to movement, Know about Abnormal Endfeel .  End-feel is the end-of-range resistance quality of the joint. Each joint has a normal end sensation at a normal point in the motion range (ROM) o

Bodyweight workout in just 25 minutes !

I'm always asked the questions as a Physiotherapist:  When is the best time to work out? Do I need to work out in the morning? Do I need to work out after work? Should I exercise outside the gym? Truth is, it depends on the person, really. But here are three reasons why it's a great option to fit in a 25 minute bodyweight workout that can be done anywhere.   Time It can be difficult to find the time to work out, but if you can find only 25 minutes in your day, you'll be in great shape! Life can get in the way and daily life is easy to prioritize over working out. I'm here to encourage you to work out your workout time, just 25 minutes is all that takes. Staying active far outweighs the cost of failing to make healthy happen.   Location  This one is important, I can write a whole blog post on why I think it's important to go to the gym, but the bottom line is this: what's important is working out – not where you do it. Exercise Precautions After PCL Reconstruction

The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are two tough bands of fibrous tissue that connect the thighbone (femur) and the large bone of the lower leg (tibia) at the knee joint.  Like other types of sprains, PCL injuries are classified according to a traditional grading system. Grade I — A mild injury causes only microscopic tears in the ligament. Although these tiny tears can stretch the PCL out of shape, they do not significantly affect the knee's ability to support your weight. Grade II (moderate) — The PCL is partially torn, and the knee is somewhat unstable, meaning it gives out periodically when you stand, walk or have diagnostic tests. Grade III (severe) — The PCL is either completely torn or is separated at its end from the bone that it normally anchors, and the knee is more unstable. Because it usually takes a large amount of force to cause a severe PCL injury, patients with Grade III PCL sprains often also have sprains of t
